FALMOUTH AND THE EDEN PROJECT

FALMOUTH AND THE EDEN PROJECT

Falmouth Beach Hotel

FALMOUTH AND THE EDEN PROJECT

Monday 4th - Friday 8th October 2010

As always we return to the Falmouth Beach Hotel which overlooks the beautiful Gyllyngvase Bay with confidence knowing that a very warm welcome awaits us. Leaving on the morning of the 4th October and following a coffee stop we will make our way to the beautiful Buckfast Abbey in South Devon for our lunch stop. Recently refurbished and offering even better facilities than before this is a lovely stop in glorious surroundings. We will call in at the Woollen Mills for our afternoon tea stop with plenty of opportunity for a little retail therapy before arriving in Falmouth late afternoon.

The Falmouth Beach is a super hotel in a wonderful position and we so enjoy our visits. All bedrooms are ensuite with hospitality trays and all comforts to enhance your stay. There is an extensive health and leisure club with swimming pool for your use during the holiday and the Falmouth Beach staff are always friendly and on hand to help should you need it. We will dine in the Sandpiper Restaurant where the food and service are always very good with meals being served on a carvery basis. Being so perfectly situated the Falmouth Beach is an ideal hotel if you want to relax in one of the lovely public areas of the hotel overlooking the sea or take a walk. Pendennis Castle sits on the headland and is just a short walk from the hotel. It commands beautiful views over the bay and the estuary looking over to the village of St Mawes and St Mawes Castle. If you prefer a gentler stroll then the coastal path will take you to the next bay or just a 10 minute walk will get you into the town of Falmouth.

During our stay we will take a drive around the scenic Roseland Peninsula taking us through delightful villages and picture postcard scenery will see us head towards St Mawes. Completely idyllic this little village with the St Mawes castle perched on the hillside overlooking the Fal Estuary will sure to please. There will be plenty of time here to take a stroll to the Castle (wonderful views from here), browse around the shops and lunch in a pretty cafe overlooking the harbour. Here we will watch the world go by at a leisurely pace before boarding the ferry which will take us through the estuary with beautiful views of the Falmouth Bay and back to Falmouth where our coach will be waiting for us. For those that wish there will be time to explore Falmouth and enjoy the shops, the National Maritime Museum and harbour area before returning to the hotel.

We will plan to visit two glorious gardens during our stay and the choice of either will be yours. The unforgettable experience of the Eden Project in a breathtaking location nestling in a crater overlooking St Austell Bay with gigantic domes the size of 30 football pitches full of exotic and fascinating plants. There will be a chance to see the majestic rainforest, fruits of the Mediterranean, flowers of South Africa and California and beautiful landscaped grounds that surround the domes. The alternative for this day will be a visit to The Lost Gardens of Heligan, made famous by the television series which followed its progress. After decades of neglect and the hurricane of 1990 this garden has been magnificently brought back to life and today is back to its former glory. Among the delights are Italianate and sundial gardens, herbaceous borders, extensive kitchen gardens and so much more. Heligan is the garden to come back to time and time again, truly a sleeping beauty of gardens.

Cornwall boasts the longest stretch of coastline in the U.K with almost 700 km of stunning coastal scenery including more than 300 beaches, so no visit to Cornwall would be complete without a day touring just some this amazing area and visiting the beautiful bays that surround it. Of course we can't do all 300 so we will do our best to choose what we think you will enjoy but each are as interesting and enjoyable as the other. Glorious stretches of sandy beaches, little alleyways leading to interesting shops and delightful harbour side cafes and restaurants just tempting us with delicious local delicacies, Cornish ice cream and of course their famous Cornish cream teas - we will worry about the calories on our return !!

Alas Friday 8th October and time to say goodbye again to the Falmouth Beach who would have looked after us so well during our stay. We will finish our holiday with plenty of stops on route before arriving home late afternoon.

The cost of this four night holiday will be £330.00 per person which includes coach travel, dinner, bed and breakfast and any excursions etc for the duration of the holiday.
