Tues 9th Sept HORSHAM, DORKING & SECRETS £14.00 Morning Coffee in the town of Horsham - good shops, tea rooms etc. On then to Dorking for lunchtime with its historic buildings, museum, many shops, restaurants, pubs etc. Leaving Dorking we will make our way to Secrets Garden Centre at Milford for afternoon tea. WWPO 0845+EWPO 0850+L/LADY 0855+BIRDHAM 0905+DONN 0915+CHI 0930 globe etc ******************************************************************* Fri 12th Sept COTSWOLD RIVER CRUISE £35.00 With Fish and Chip Lunch As the summer draws to a close we board the Adventuress from the Halfpenny Bridge, Lechlade-on-Thames, the gateway to the Cotswolds for a 3 hour lunchtime leisurely cruise along the River Thames on the Wiltshire-Gloucestershire border. A delicious Fish & Chip lunch will be served during our cruise. After coffee/biscuits, we enjoy a guided tour of the almshouses. There is time for lunch in the town, where there are a selection of shops cafes and restaurants. In the afternoon, we depart for a tour across the Ashdown Forest with its spectacular view and colourful history. We see places associated with Winnie the Pooh, hear the stories of smuggling and see the inspiration for 'the biggest aspidistra in the world'. We stop for afternoon tea at Heaven Farm where the cakes live up to its name. Coffee/tea/biscuits incl at Sackville College. WWPO 0830+EWPO 0835+L/LADY 0840+BIRDHAM 0845+DONN 0855+CHI 0915 Globe etc *******************************************************************Tues 23rd Sept A ROYAL DAY OUT £40.00 Buckingham Palace, The Royal Mews & The Queens Gallery 2008 will be the first time that visitors will be able to experience the spectacle of the Ballroom set up for a State Banquet in Buckingham Palace - the horseshoe shaped table will be dressed with a dazzling display from the magnificent grand service, first used to celebrate the birthday of George 111 in 1811. Jewelled cups, ivory tankards, sconces, shields and much more all on display. The State rooms at the heart of the Palace are lavishly furnished with great treasures incl paintings by Van Dyck and Canaletto, exquisite porcelain and the finest English and French furniture in the World. The Royal Mews is home to the royal collection of historic coaches and carriages and includes the glass coach used by royal brides and the Irish State Coach used by The Queen for the State Opening of Parliament. Don't miss the Gold State Coach - the most dazzling of them all. The Queens Gallery houses treasures from the Royal Collection with great works of art acquired by Kings and Queens over 500 years. (we hope). Coffee on route at Golden Acres Garden Centre - always a favourite and then onto Wilton Shopping Village. Good selection of shops and restaurant will make an excellent day. Finchcocks is a fine Georgian manor surrounded by parkland and beautiful gardens. It houses a celebrated collection of over 100 historical instruments which are as appealing to the non-musician as they are to the specialist. Arriving about 1230, just in time for lunch, we will enjoy a delicious Finchcocks Platter with time after to explore the gardens. An introduction to Finchcocks will follow with a look around the museum with its fascinating collection.
