The official residence of the Lord Warden, The Duke of Wellington who held the post for 23 years enjoyed his time here very much. His spirit lives on with many items on display including a pair of original 'Wellington boots' in the fascinating museum. Many of the valuable furnishings now on display were saved by Lord Warden William Pitt and successive Lord Wardens have left their mark on the Castle. The Queen Mother made regular visits to the castle and some of the rooms used during her stays are open to visitors as is her magnificent garden given to Her Majesty on her 95th birthday.
